Designed for free by two amateur golfers, Jack Neville and Douglas Grant, Pebble Beach Golf Links is now legendary among golfers and nongolfers alike. Neville and Grant designed the course, which opened in 1919, to have as many holes along the coastline as possible. Nine of the course’s 18 holes border the water, and several others offer picturesque ocean views.

Set along the course’s 18th fairway, this 11,000-square-foot home affords several privileged vantage points through its expansive windows, but no view is better than the one from the grand, 1,500-square-foot veranda that overlooks the "infinity" green and the ocean beyond. The exterior of the Pebble Beach home, which is located on a 1.7-acre site, includes fossil limestone walls, extruded bronze–clad windows and doors, and copper-trimmed teak pergolas. Inside, the house has four bedrooms with full baths in three separate wings, five fireplaces, and a professional-grade kitchen. Adjacent to the verdant lawn that extends to the patio, a 400-square-foot greenhouse equipped with a bath, closet, and a limestone exterior that matches the main house, can be used as a guesthouse or exercise studio—or simply as a place to sit and watch golfers struggle up Neville and Grant’s most famous hole.
