Two dominant forces in English design are behind the modern residences soon to be completed at 21 Chesham Place in London’s desirable Belgravia neighborhood. World-renowned architectural firm Foster and Partners is working with interior designers and development managers Candy & Candy to create what will be six of London’s largest and most luxurious lateral apartments.

"Once we purchased the property, which was formerly a telephone ex-change, we immediately contacted Foster and Partners to join the project as signature architects," says the project’s lead interior designer, Martin Kemp of Candy & Candy. "Working symbiotically, the team at Foster and Partners crafted the external shell and internal core structure necessary to house what we envisioned for the residences."

The garden level and raised first floor units (offering 7,800 square feet and 6,300 square feet of space, respectively) have been arranged with unique subterranean leisure suites. These contemporary spaces each house a swimming pool with fiber-optic lighting, lounge area and fitness studio. Oc-cupying two floors is an impressive 8,370-square-foot duplex apartment, complete with a dramatic triple-length, double-height reception. Above that
are two individual 4,800-square-foot units, while the top floors house the 7,320-square-foot penthouse. This latter unit features a "glass house" structure on the roof surrounded by an expansive terrace.

Each apartment has been designed with an impressive selection of natural materials, including onyx, marble and a range of hardwoods that serve as the framework for a variety of unique design accents. For example, each bathroom has a different marble pattern, and each powder room has a different door design—neither of which is replicated elsewhere in the building.

In terms of security and technology, smart-system wiring controls everything from lighting to external doors and a category five security system—the finest and most comprehensive of its kind. Residents benefit from a 24-hour concierge who offers hotel-style services such as dry cleaning and valet parking in the subterranean garage.

Presently, both first floor apartments with leisure suites are available as well as the duplex residence occupying the second and third floors of the building. Pricing for these units ranges from £12 million to £25 million ($22.85 million to $47.61 million).
