Your backyard is not beige, so
why should the furniture that graces your deck be? Lately, designers and textile
manufacturers are encouraging homeowners to enhance their chaise longues with
prints and bold hues instead of bland, monochromatic fabrics—multiple colors and
mixed patterns offer an unexpected variation in exterior design.

For those ready to brave the bright, designer fabrics such as
those from SeaCloth, starting at $54 per yard, offer an assortment of decorative
textiles, ranging in colors like Ocean and Firecracker from their Beach Party
line to the palm-patterned cotton weave from their latest collection, SplashOn.
"Our customers generally tend to be well traveled and have decor at the top of
their mind," says SeaCloth’s Deirdre Halper. "They are people who are involved
in creating their own environment. They’re not looking to re-create their
mother’s home."
Other fashionable fabrics worth noting include those found in
Holly Hunt’s Great Outdoors collection. The line offers seven patterns and 76
options of water-resistant fabrics in vibrant colors such as Sunset, Driftwood
and Sand, and intricate weaves unique in both texture and structure. Prices
start at $54 per yard.

The Waterways Collection, a collaboration between Giati and
designer Glenn Peckman, includes an array of textiles in botanical shades and
textured weaves for around $75 to $200 per yard. Their colored sheers, weaves
and embossed velvets can withstand the open air, as well as a full house.
Soleil, available through Kravet and starting at $139 per yard, offers
couture patterns in subtle teals, reds, oranges and earthy browns. Their fade-
and stain-resistant fabrics in patterns such as Pueblo add a touch of Southwest
flavor to the outdoor living room—minus the heat and dust.
